Basic Information about the Small Carpathian Wine Route and the Small Carpathian Wine Route Association

The Small Carpathian Wine Route is a tourism initiative covering the Small Carpathian viticultural region, one of six viticultural regions in Slovakia defined by the Slovak Ministry of Agriculture's Directive No. 153/1998.  The region contains vineyards covering 7,303.5 ha, which is about one third of the total vineyard area in Slovakia (22,847 ha).

The Small Carpathian Wine Route is institutionally represented by the Small Carpathian Wine Route Association, established in 1995. This unites vintners, municipalities and tourism businesses, as well as some volunteers, who wish to promote and develop the Small Carpathian region. At present more than 30 municipalities are members, as well as almost 250 companies and individuals.

The aim of the Small Carpathian Wine Route Association is to foster the development of the Small Carpathian region, especially in terms of tourism connected to its wine-growing and winemaking traditions. The association provides marketing and educational activities for the region and its members, and organizes regional events focused on the promotion of wine and vintners.

The Small Carpathian Wine Route is marked out visually by boards alongside the roads leading into member municipalities.
